Her writing is great, but I absolutely hated the characters and the whole plot. I think readers are supposed to find this dynamic between the 4 friends/lovers complicated, fun and exciting, and I'm sure that's why so many people love it. I personally found all the affairs, lack of communication, and lies to be gross. I skipped some of part 2 to get to the end and I'm glad I'm rid of it. If you are turned away by cheating and unnecessary scandal as I am then this might not be for you!

You know what, I was expecting more from this. I like sally rooney and how she writes but this book was slow and the characters weren't good people. The 4 of them really did not have great morals, but honestly neither do people in the real world.

I really want to like these books. And sometimes I do. Sometimes it feels a bit too real, like I'm a dissociative version of myself -- floating above myself, observing against my will.
But a lot of the time is just reads as stream of consciousness and endless rambling about nothing. Maybe that's the point. But I really couldn't care less, and I considered not finishing the book many times. But I did. So there's that.

After I read Normal people and really enjoyed it I preferred the show to the book as I felt the show fleshed out the characters more. This time I did the opposite and read the book first as opposed to the show. I really enjoyed this book, Frances was a frustrating protagonist there were so many times where I just wanted her to get therapy or just talk to Nick more about what she's feeling. I feel like a lot of Sally Rooney books bring up a lot of mental health issues with no solutions for the characters. Obviously in real life there aren't many solutions but I would like them to get more therapy and help. I actually really liked her relationship with Nick and he was probably my favorite character there was so many times where I wanted a chapter from his POV. I didn't care for Bobbi she seemed like an overall terrible person. I was also surprised nothing ever happened with her dad I was expecting there to be a reveal that he had died. Overall I did enjoy this and I'm going to be watching the show which I heard isn't as good as Normal People but few things without Paul Mescal are.

This book truly had my mind running all over the place. Even after finishing it, I don't actually know how I feel about it. I enjoyed reading it but I can't explain why. Sally Rooney's writing i found to be so accessible. I fell headfirst into the story so fast and couldn't put it down.

Tosi aito kirja. Käsittelee ihmissuhteita niiden vaatimalla herkkyydellä ja rivienväliin kirjoitetulla jännitteellä.
Jotain silti uupuu, ehken vain tykännyt Nickistä tai sitten kirjasta puuttui sellainen "täydellisen kirjan koukku".
