I'm easy to please with my favorite fictional worlds. If you make the story pretty decent and feature the same characters I’ve fallen in love with, I’m almost guaranteed to enjoy it. Note that I said “almost.” Even for me it’s a stretch to call this “okay.” In the Other Half, the crew of Serenity are transporting an injured man for some Alliance client and end up getting attacked by Reavers. The story starts in medias res so there's no real clear indication on how exactly they got this job or where they are or where they're going (other than the assigned drop-off point) or even when this takes place. I can’t discuss the rest of this without spoiling the surprise at the end so SPOILERS.
Spoiler Then River uses her freaky psychic shit to find out that the person they're transporting is an Alliance torturer and the Alliance client is planning to kill the crew once they get to the drop-off. In order to protect everyone, River kills said torturer and then Mal reveals that he intentionally put River with the dude because he felt that something was off. "Welcome to the crew, River!"

Seriously Mal?! What the fuck was that?!

Honestly, this was a pretty terrible story. I didn't buy Mal's reasoning, the story itself wasn't particularly interesting nor did it reveal anything different about the crew. Even the humor was half-assed at best. Oh and the art is nowhere near as good as the previous stories. It’s not one I'd recommend.

A quick little River and Reavers tale. Doesn't add a whole lot to the mythos, maybe a hint. Not very deep but not bad. 3.5 of 5.
