Not as good as Empathy Exams, but does have some gems. My favorite essay in this was Layover Story. Sim Life also seems prophetic of our pandemic age

I greatly enjoyed this collection of essays. I listened to it on audiobook, narrated by the author, and while it’s clear that it’s a collection whose maximum impact can only be experienced in print, the full experience wasn’t significantly diminished by listening rather than reading. The last essay even made me tear up by the end.
Divided into three sections, “Longing,” “Looking,” and “Dwelling,” the collection deals with loneliness, art, and the complications of living a life with other people whether by circumstance or choice. I have to admit, I didn’t have all the necessary context to enjoy the “Looking” section, which dealt with art, but I still enjoyed it just for the writing. Overall a standout collection, one of my favorites of the year. Read in print!

Another stunning collection of essays by Leslie Jamison, who has, after this read, become my favorite essayist.
