Again, I loved this book from Gary D. Schmidt. It even made me cry a little bit. It is a story about grief, and resilience, and fresh chances. I really liked the references to books and other characters from other Gary D. Schmidt books. This wouldn't be a book I would start with, and some of the pieces (the coaches, Important Words, etc.) will feel very familiar (maybe even repetitive) to those who have read all of Schmidt's work but I think that the way that this book deals with grief and loss could be really valuable for middle schoolers (especially with so many who have dealt with COVID losses this past year).
