This is one of the most intricately woven Science Fiction Fantasy story that I have come across in a long time.

The world building is meticulous and exceedingly well done.

With Tremaine we have a female main character that is different in many ways,  and always intriguing to spend time with.

And then there is Ile-Rien, Tremaine's home world that is on the brink of collapse, respectively being invaded by a seemingly undefeatable enemy and a group of unlikely people come together, all in the need to find some answers.

Gets more interesting about halfway through. The main character’s persona was undefined and unexplained for quite a while, and that made her pretty boring. Looking forward to the next books.

A fun fantasy with a nice multiple-worlds culture clash setup and some satisfying dungeon crawling.  I haven't read any of the other Ile-Rien books, dunno if that makes a difference.  I particularly liked the use of language barriers early on in the book.
