I have read some but not all of Quinn's earlier and later books in the Marriage Game series. I really enjoyed this book, more than I expected to be honest. Gervais, Lord Huntley retreats to the continent to avoid the leg shackles all his friends seem to be falling into, eventually landing in Venice at the home of his widowed aunt, Horatia. Unknown to Huntley, also staying at his aunt's home is Lady Caroline, an unmarried woman running from a dark and painful incident in London. Gervais is immediately intrigued by the beauty - Caro is not nearly as sure.

Due to what we would today term a stalker, Huntley and Caro end up on a trek across the alps. Along the way the romance grows, and Caro starts coming to terms with her past. At the same time, we get the secondary but super enjoyable romance of Aunt Horatia (let's not talk about the fact that she is considered an elder at the ripe old age of 37). She too is leaving Venice to help protect Caro and ends up running into a man who has loved her for years.

I enjoyed watching the romance bloom between Gervais and Caro, and the way he allowed her to take the lead in most parts of their romance. He showed immense understanding and compassion, and made him an excellent book boyfriend. 4 stars.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for a complimentary copy of this book. The opinions herein are my own.

Quick Summary: A by the numbers romance

My Review: Desiring Lady Caro by Ella Quinn was a paint by the numbers love story. It brought together a dashing gentleman and a troubled innocent. There was also another story at play in this book.

About the Main Characters: Huntley and Caro

He was enchanted by her on sight. She took an instant disliking to him.
He was protective of her. She was guarded towards him.
He wanted to cherish her. She wanted to understand him.
He fully desired her. She secretly desired his attentions.
He wanted her to trust him and become his. She was confused, even as she was losing herself to his charm.
They ultimately got their HEA.

My Final Say: This was an interesting story. It had chills and thrills. Multiple moving parts were revealed within this book. Readers who enjoy period pieces with familiar tropes will appreciate this romance novel.

This is my kind of story, female lead that is running from a past and a bad man, and the man she falls in love is a man offers comfort.
The story is a good historical romance story, well set and it also has a good rhythm in the development of the romance between the main characters.

Caro left England to escape unscrupulous fortune hunters, but her godmother’s home in Venice isn’t the haven she needs. The Earl of Huntley helps her escape an overzealous suitor. As they trek across the Continent, a marriage of convenience may be the only way to save her.

Beneath the surface of this light-hearted romp, there are undercurrents of Caro’s tragic past. Overall, though, it’s a heartwarming romance with an adventurous story and characters you can’t help rooting for.

Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.

This was quite the wild escapade. So many people vowing never to wed, inevitably catching the dreaded disease -love, and succumbing to the affliction. I did quite enjoy it! There was just enough wild, inconceivable mishaps and complications to provide a wild ride of entertainment. Watching how patiently Huntley worked to understand Caro’s “problem”, made for very tender moments. He truly is a kind, understanding man… though not without faults of course. We do hit a speed bump of miscommunication of course. The multiple hea’s made for a nice surprise. I came for one love story but was gifted two.

I really didn't care for Huntley in the last Marriage Game book, but he really comes out nicely here. I thought Caro was a little cold at first until the hints of the attack came out and we start to realize she has a major reason why she's terrified of men. Huntley is admirable in his caring and protection of Caro in the fleeing of the villain. I love how we see insight to Marcheses character when we see how much he cares for his son. John is the perfect man for Horatia! Absolutely LOVED the scene where Caros' mom walks in on them! The heat between both couples sizzled of the pages! This review was originally posted on Nelle's NightStand

After a love spell led a large percentage of his friends to the church, Gervais, lord Huntley, decides to escape the same fate and went to Italy to experience "la dolce vita". Arriving at his widow's aunt house, he meets her goddaughter, lady Caroline and he's enchanted by her... Caro not so much...

Caro has to escape Italy when a dangerous suitor becomes so persistent that he's a potential danger. Once again she's obligated to leave her life because of a man and she's so desperate to escape without being hurt again even if the insufderable nephew of her godmother has to go with her. The trip is long, the enemy doesn't give up, so they end up getting married..

This is my first Ella Quinn book and I really enjoyed it.. It was fastpaced and we got to see the main couple slowly developing and understanding their feelings for each other. The heroine was abused in the past and really liked the way Huntley handled it and cared for Caro.

In the meantime, there's a secondary love story for Horatia (Huntley's aunt/Caro's godmother, I think she was the MPV of the book and was like Cinderella's godmother but instead of sending Caro to the ball, she sent her to a road trip through the Alps to happiness and in between she snatched an Earl for herself.
I couldn't understand if the villain was stupid or crazy, but I liked that the author showed us that there was a person who really loved.

Please note that in the book the consume a lot of chocolate and onions...

I received a free copy from Netgalley and these are my honest opinions...

This book had much more of a romantic suspense focus than I expected. However, the forced-proximity story was definitely fun and I enjoyed the secondary characters as well.
