I love Margaret Cho, and I wish this book had been less her whining about how no one will listen to her opinions and more of her opinions themselves. (Format note: It would have gone over better for me as a paper book than an audiobook so I could have skimmed ahead.)

I possibly liked this book for the reason many reviewers disliked it: I thoroughly enjoy a humorous rant and there are plenty of those in there. I haven't seen Margaret Cho perform, nor have read any of her other books so I didn't really have any expectations. I came across it at the library while looking for something else and I enjoy her writings online (and admire her activism) so I decided to give it a shot.

It wasn't terribly heavy reading but that's okay, I need a break from that sometimes. It's important to read what marginalized authors have to say, particularly for people coming from places of privilege (though virtually everyone has some form of privilege); this includes myself. Some of the things she alluded to in this book make me want to seek out earlier works.

So yeah, I considered it worth the read and enjoyed it.

Holy crap, this book is amazing. Margaret Cho makes me feel all fiesty and like a fighter and a winner, and like I can stand up and fucking do something. She's articulate and funny, has a foul mouth and enviable style. I recommend this book to anyone who is frustrated, feeling down, or needs a kick in the pants.

Margaret Cho's stream-of-conscious ramblings about racial and sexual orientation prejudices are passionate, but still just ramblings. She said she adapted the book from her blog; it would have been nice if she had worked a little harder at fleshing out an actual book.
