I enjoyed this story. I really like dystopians where the government is really corrupted and the power is centralized, and this book gave me that.

However, I didn't think the writing was that good. The author wasn't really good at explaining things and because of this, and the writing style, I didn't like the book as much as I could have. And of course, there had to be more than one boy in this book too... Why does this always happen? *sigh* Authors, stop it.

Also, that ending... That was just a big mess.

Incapable. Awkward. Artless.

Alright, probably it's not that artless, but this book is definitely awkward as heck.

It's so confusing!!! The plot is weak. The pace is super slow. There are a lot of unnecessary passages.

I won't recommend this book, ever!

p. 200 the first kiss of this book.
FAILED
I don't understand. It's like Adelice wasn't interested in Erik and then she picked the weirdest moment to kiss him? Why?

.
Soon after, she was punished for kissing Erik. (yeah, how lame was that?) She chatted up with Josten. At first, I thought Josten was still mourning his dead ripped wife and his daughter. (and I can never understand the good of teen parents) However, he and Adelice then made out passionately.
whaaaaaat?
Adelice, are you a slut? I know. You and Erik are not a couple, but...are't there better things to worry about?

This was a really fantastic book, great plot and world, richly imagined, and just wonderful! Can't wait for the next book!

Crewel by Gennifer Albin is one of those fantastic reads with the biggest problem is that now I have to wait for book 2 to arrive in the mail. Crewel, book 1, is one of those stories that finishes one main line of the novel, but gets your feet wet for the next installment. The transition in this story is immediate from one to the other and may leave the reader with the feeling that the first part of the story didn't end, which is partially true, but the remaining questions will have to be addressed in the second novel to avoid a crossover between the two stories.

That sounds confusing but without revealing spoilers, the synopsis transition becomes blurry. Crewel is still a fantastic read, and I can't wait for Altered, book 2 by Gennifer Albin.

Ok, so. I don't like reviewing books that I didn't finish, cause well, I didn't finish it. Not really fair. I only got about 20% or so and even though the premise is really interesting, what with the threads of life and the loom and weaving, it was also utterly boring.

I would pick it up and not 5 pages later, put it back down. It just couldn't hold my attention. And the so called 'budding romance' that was going on wasn't helping either. I didn't care for the MC at all, she would think one thing and then do/say something else entirely.

But like I said, I never finished it and who knows it might have gotten better as it went, but I just couldn't do it.

Thanks to NetGalley and Faber and Faber!

didn't love it, didn't hate it. ig I'm in the middle.
the mc was a little bit insufferable throughout the entire book and extremely selfish and the love triangle was also a bit awful. furthermore, secondary characters did not add anything to the plot and the writing was very cringy and rushed at some points. I mean, they would be like arguing about a dead body and then they kissed. like out of nowhere.
nonetheless, the plot seems interesting and I really liked how this superlative sexism was pictured despite making me mad bc how unfair it is. however, it was such a shame that such a feminist prompt had such awful representation. the women in this book were awfully written and full of stereotypes despite the fact that this book was about empowering women.
the reason why I found myself reading this book was the fact that this is the reading we had to do for this weekend's book club reunion, so I imagine I will be continuing the series. nonetheless, a lot of things in this book could be better.
