Perfectly serviceable gothic spookiness. A bit convoluted at times - the author actually inserts a chapter halfway through to go over what happened in the first half. And, as another reviewer said, a little repetitive. But it's a fun addition to a fun tradition.

Sweet, sweet gothic goodness. This story is full of drama, ghostly eerieness, sinister schemes, and forbidden love. Our heroine is pious and beautiful. Her lover is brave and noble. There is political strife and a lot of bloodshed. The whole thing is laced with that extra delicious brand of charming gothic cocaine. It’s like candy for my brain.
