The story balances between the past and the present. On Christmas Day in 1893, every single soul in the town of Abandon, CO disappeared. No traces were ever found.

In the present, a journalist and her estranged father, a history professor, are investigating Abandon with two pyschic photographers and a couple of back country guides. A huge blizzard blows in, trapping them all.

What happened in 1893, and how does it tie in with the mysterious and murderous stalkers tracking the present-day party through the snow?

Twisty, but believably so.

You might think you've guessed the ending, but you haven't.

Plot twists made the book hard to put down. The story from the past is just as engrossing as the story of the present.

Be sure to read in a sunny spot. The descriptions of the cold and snow and wind will send you searching for socks and a blanket.

I liked the parts when the past and present mirrored each other and man, this really showed the depths people will go for greed. But otherwise it was really confusing to keep all the characters in mind and differentiate them. The reason for the whole town dying was so basic and ridiculous, it also had pretty bad pacing and for a town abandoned, why are there so many people visiting?

I usually love Blake Crouch but I just couldn't get into this one. I listened on Audio and only for that I would have DNF it something I never really do.

Did not care one bit about the characters or what happened to them. Extremely long and drawn out book.

I just didn't care about the characters in this one, and the jumping around in time didn't help. The audiobook was even worse - why have four narrators if you're going to divide them up into chapters? Listening to the female narrators trying to do tough guy voices was grating. No enthusiasm to finish it, I just lost interest. Disappointing because I enjoyed Dark Matter and Recursion.
