I really struggled when deciding how to rate this book, but I think I'll settle with 2.5 stars. It's just not as good as the first three in the series. In fact, I don't think there was any need to revive the series to begin with. The third book had wrapped up the story with a very good battle and perfect ending. This continuation was sloppy in almost everything: in how the plot unfolded, the character development, and the dialogue. And also the characters, which I have always found extremely immature and annoying even for being just teenagers, were even more so--you would think they would have learned from the previous adventure. Jaze was a martyr as ever, Clary continues to be self-absorbed, and Simon has become a girl player. On top of that, there were so many subplots it was a bit hard to follow: a werewolf side story, Jocelyn's wedding, a vampire side story, a demon side story, Simon-Maya-Isabelle relationship, Clary-Jaze relationship (the most annoying to read as they are always like "I love her/him but I shouldn't" even though they don't have the sibling impediment anymore!), and Alec-Magnus relationship. It was just a lot of uninteresting things going on at the same time, which made it hard to read the book--I just pushed through because I don't like not finishing things.

In conclusion, I would not recommend this to someone who wasn't too much into the series in the first place, and I wouldn't even recommend it to hard core fans of the series--it might spoil it for you.

I had a harder time getting into this book. I liked it but, I didn't think it was as good as the first three. At this point before reading on to the next book I kinda feel like the series should have ended with book three.

For me the book didn't capture my attention like the first three books did. This book started out really slow and it wasn't until I was about half way through the book that it finally became a "I can't put the book down" read for me.

However the ending of the book was really good. It left me wanting to go grab the 5th book and pick it up immediately and begin reading to find out what would happen next.

I give it four stars because it started out slow but ended with a bang!

really enjoyed it! it was a slow starter. I put it down and read another book! I wouldn't have been able to do that with the first three. But I was hooked all over again by the finish. I've brought the 5th already. I'm starting it..... NOW!

It didn't wow me, but it wasn't awful. I'll stick to the series until the end, but really Clare should have ended it with book three.
