I had serious doubts about this book going in. First of all, it seemed way too sappy and generic for my taste. Second, a friend read it and didn't like it.
For the first half of the book I was bored out of my mind. I just didn't care about the characters. Kate was a spineless sap and Tully was a self-obsessed douche. But then about half way through I got into it. I still wasn't crazy about the characters, but I was invested in the story.
It was predictable. I guessed how it was going to end early on. But I still enjoyed it. It wasn't horrible, just wasn't anything special to me. I thought it could have been shorter.
One thing I did love about it was that it was set in Seattle. It was cool reading a book and knowing where all of the places they mentioned were.

Sooooo sad omg. I cried for hours reading the last quarter of this book.
I did hate how kate felt like she was the second choice and that her husband had all that history of being in love with her best friend :( but it was sweet when he said that Tully meant nothing to him and it was all about Kate.
Tully seemed to be a very selfish character at times. I was annoyed that she just didn’t “get” certain things and that everyone just loved her. Kate deserved that too.
But i appreciate the story overall and it was so good and genuine and real, and people can act the way Tully and Kate both did. Kate wanted a life of love and devotion, and Tully wanted to prove herself. They both had their strengths and their weaknesses and it captured womanhood really beautifully.
The ending really made you feel that guilt, grief, and overall terribleness that Tully would’ve felt when she found out. That felt like a strong, important lesson to not hold a grudge and how short life is.
Kristin Hannah never misses and this book really delved into the intricacies of women and human nature. Not a “perfect” book but an amazing story nonetheless

I have not sobbed this much for a book in a very very long time. Honestly, probably not since I read Redeeming Love or The Nightingale (the book that is actually the reason I love Kristin Hannah). This book was so good. The fact that it was all character development basically the whole time is what made it all the better. You knew these characters so well that you felt like a part of you is gone and lost when you finally close the book.
Honestly tho, the beginning seemed cheesy. I wasn't sure about it. Until I kept going and fell absolutely in love w this book.
I will also say this for my friends out there: this is a very adult book. There are details given that are not necessarily necessary but also I think really added to the love between some characters. So just in case :)
