A good quick read, but never really felt attached to the main character. I don't know if the book just moved too fast or the character wasn't really developed, but I never felt like I knew her.

I read the famine trilogy again as an adult over this last week, and the books have lived up to my memories of them. Heartbreaking and beautiful.

The second book in the series. I originally purchased the first book in Ireland and wanted to continue the series. This book wasn't as gripping as the first one where you were on the edge of your seat wondering if all the children would make it and what they would find. This second book was more about the life of Peggy as a maid and the treatment of young maids at the time. A very good story but I feel I've read similar stories before already.

A good book, but a bit simple. There isn't as much detail as I would have liked.
