forgot about this until I saw I didn’t write a comment. winner of a plot tbh I wasn’t expecting it to hit great it couldn’t have been done better. was constantly wanting to pick the book up to read what would happen next. last third was a little predictable and like okay cool let’s get to the point but solid 3.5-4

Almost worked for me. I mostly enjoyed reading it, but now that's it's done I'm left with that feeling you sometimes get in a restaurant: "well, that was a change of pace but I won't order it again."

Fisrt, if you haven't read this and are thinking about it, it's a straight-up horror story with a hint of science. Don't say you weren't warned.

I have the impression that Thompson woke up one morning and said, "I just had a hellacious dream!" and started writing.

As another reviewer noted, all that training from Molly's parents and they never told her about puberty?

And it went a bit weird at the end with what felt like a hastily-added explanation.

I sort of disengaged with the first Molly that didn't just immediately try to kill her. I had a moment of "oh, this is an interesting twist" but we didn't get an explanation. I disengaged a bit more when James brought bad news about himself and Leon and Molly's reaction was pretty much "oh yeah, huh?"

It's understandable that we end with Molly at a new low, and she's been hardened by a hard life, but that doesn't make me keen to find out what happens to this broken person and her probably-broken world.

I really hope my first read of 2018 doesn't set the tone for the whole year, because the insidious horror of this novella is going to haunt me for a long time (and who doesn't need a little less horror in RL 2018?). I really liked the book from the very beginning, loved how visceral it all felt, but the real horror of it didn't hit until a good halfway through, reading in the dark and wondering who was going to come for me. There were moments of an overarching theme of infertility that didn't quite come together, but as a horror novella it is a huge success for me.

A strange and interesting little book. I think it reads better with less explanation, although there is not very much in this first book anyway. Molly is creepy and her life is fascinating to see, although I’m not drawn much to the characters.

What the actual hell did I read. At times interesting/OK to read, at times just too strange, at times I was just annoyed that we didn't get any explanation (which we got, a bit at least, at the end). It was quite disturbing. Quite gore-filled.
