Clearly written book which covers a brief history of higher education, the challenges facing higher education, and the rise of for-profit schools and online courses. "...online education likely meets Harvard School of Business professor Clayton Christensen's definition of disruptive innovation--both creating new markets and cannibalizing old ones" (Wildavsky, Kelly, and Carey 241). It was written in 2011, before the rise of massive open online courses (MOOCs) which are free but generally not credited. The editors of this book wonder why innovation is spreading so slowly.
