These are very brief descriptions of survival - I thought they were a good intro into other long form books on the subjects e.g. Touching the void by Joe Simpson, Ricky McGee's outback tale and Alive about the Chilean Andes aircrash.

You think your day was bad? Check out this compendium of schadenfreude. My favorite story has to be about the guy who picks up a trio of hitchhikers in the Australian outback, gets mugged, beaten and left for dead, and spends the next 3 months eating frogs and lizards to stay alive. (At 6'3", he was a skeletal 105 pounds by the time he was discovered.) Great little digestible chunks of thrill. Perfect summer fare.

This was a good book for idle reading, but I really wish some of the stories were more detailed. Not just the tragedy, but the events leading up to the tragedy. I understand there is only so much room however.

Good, if a bit morbid, of a book!

Im a sucker for survival Stories and have dozens of them. I've been dying to read this collection of sixty survival stories for ages but gotta admit I was a bit disappointed. Each story if about two pages long and iis really vague and dry. I might as well as have just looked on Wikipedia for each story....in fact i did for some stories and got more detail!
