This book truly is cute as hell, so well written and a delightful emotional read.

This was such a fantastic read! I wasn't sure what I'd think of this book as I didn't LOVE 'If I was your girl'. Not to say that it was a bad book, It just didn't live up to the hype I'd seen around it.

But this damn book is so sweet. I adore the relationship that Eric and Morgan have and it was so wonderful seeing it shift and grow over the years. I also loved their devocation towards one another, they truly have always loved one another and it was so beautiful to read about.

While I did like this format part of me also wishes it was structured like a normal novel so we could get MORE of them however, I think this format was still perfect for this book.

Give me emotion, tears, and a romance years in the making and you’ve got yourself a 5 star book.

Spoiler The ending disappointed me. why did they have to have the super happy, unrealistic ending? ):

This is an emotional journey. It follows two kids from 13 until 18 through snapshots of their lives. And, oh goodness, do you get attached. My only qualm really is that you can't tell how long a section for a year will last as it varies by year. Due to that, it takes sometime adjust every time there is a time jump. Overall, my heart felt so many things and I cried a bunch.

I received an ecopy of this through netgalley; however, all opinions are my own.

We have the story of two kids (Morgan and Eric) that were born in the same day, in the same hospital, and since then their parents and they have been really good friends. ⁣

The book takes place only in their birthdays, so we have only one day per year to know their stories, and I loved that format! I think it was easier to read, and a nice way to follow them through all those years (13 to 18 YO, I think!)⁣

They are discovering themselves, Morgan begins to realizes she is trans girl and she doesn't really know how to tell anybody and how to cope with this realization. Eric on the other hand, is worried and doesn't know what is happening to his best friend, and meanwhile he has a role of "good, sporty boy" to fulfill that he doesn't really feel comfortable with. ⁣

I enjoyed this book so much, although it was painful to see Morgan suffering ☹ I really liked both of the protagonist, but Morgan definitely stole my heart. The friendship between them had its up and downs, they were teenagers after all and didn't quite know how to communicate with each other until they were a little bit older.⁣

If you want an own voices book about a transgender teenager, young adult, coming of age, friendship, a little bit of romance... this is your book. 100% recommended. Be mindful of some trigger warnings:
SpoilerSuicide attempt.
