This is, for the moment, the last of the "books I saw as movies first" books. I think, in this case, I liked the movie better. Which isn't to say I didn't enjoy the book! It's just personal preference. Mrs. Frisby is still an absolutely wonderful protagonist: You don't see mothers as heroes very often, and she's so brave in the face of horrors for the sake of her children! It's amazing! The rest of the characters didn't make much of an impression, including Jeremy, who's much less present here than he is in the movie. That surprised me a little. I do like how scientific the story is, though. Do you suppose it counts as sci-fi? Because I think it should!

A good children's book but filled with far too much 70s moralising that soft times lead to soft men and that stealing is inherently and objectively bad. The third act lacked pace, and the air of mystery behind the rats is spoiled somewhat. With all that said, still very much enjoyable to revisit as an adult.

I've never been a fan of talking-animal-chapter-books, especially ones with talking rats and mice, so it is purely due to O'Brien's writing and great story that I love this book as much as I do. I love that he assumes his readers are smart - what a great trait in a children's author!
Probably my favorite children's book. Movie is good too!

Re-read this with the kids....forgot how wonderful it is!!!
Loved this book and movie! So much that my pet rats in college were named after different characters
