A surprisingly thought provoking, philosophical, and exceptional read. I picked up this book because the movie had left an impression on me when I was younger. The book is, without a doubt, much better than the animated film.
The most fascinating part about this book is the main character, Mrs. Frisby. Despite being a mouse, she has to be the most well written depiction of a single mother I have ever come across in a book. Other books should follow the example of this one when writing a character who is a single mother!
This book is a classic, wonderful adventure, and certainly deserving of the Newbury Award. I highly recommend it.

I never knew the animated film was based on a book. It was just one of those childhood favorites and the book is a nice read. I keep going back to the movie and a lot of was changed for theatrical effect but the same heart of it is still there. All of the names already carried that feel from the movie and it's added with the book's characterization. Mrs. Frisby is a courageous mouse. The story is well written and feels like a home-y book.
