rilke describes god as a friend; a confidant; a crush. someone deeply known and felt and an equal participant in their relationship: the poet keeps god alive and vice versa. i also loved that this edition kept the original german mirrored on each page since i’ve set out to reapply myself to the language. divine!!

ahrghrggr i wasn't expecting to like this as much as i did because while i loved letters to a young poet so much it wasn't quite this good (well some bits were but that is neither here nor there...not all of it at least)......my edition has relatively few poems and it has whet my appetite....i hear the anita barrows + joanna macy translation is good and has more of the poems i will have to get my hands on it.................>:D

Will definitely need to reread to fully take in these poems, but just from the flashes of understanding or feeling I managed to get as I devoured this book, wholly worthy of 5 stars.

(I immediately want to reread just about every poem in this collection, which I think says quite a bit.)
