I knew right away that this was a book that (unfortunately) I could put down. The pace of the book was a little slow for my liking. I felt it was more about traveling than romance. The characters were interesting but just a bit bland.

The lowest smolder of a slow but , I am not quite certain how I made it to page 340 without so much as a kiss.

Waterloo is in the past, the Treaty of Paris in effect, and it is once again safe for the Englist to travel and study abroad. Unless of course you are a Regency woman seeking a university degree. Lady Augusta wants nothing more than to attend university, and has been making arrangements to obtain a degree from the University of Padua, only the second woman ever to do so. Her mother however is determined she marry instead. An agreement is reached where Augusta agrees to attend her first London Season and be introduced while taking steps to meet her mother's conditions to her pursuing a degree in Padua. Much to her surprise, she meets Phinn, a younger son fascinated with architecture who has just returned from an extended trip to Mexico and under pressure to marry and produce a male heir to protect the family escutcheon should his brother continue to produce only daughters. Of course Phinn finds a soulmate in Augusta, but she refuses him and departs with cousins for Europe. Phinn follows and manages to join their party where many adventures follow before all happily resolved.

I had a lot of fun reading this, full of humor, great characters including pets and kids, and well-researched history and social customs. I do ding the author severely for an egregious historical error: France's King Louis XVIII who ruled after fall of Napoleon I, did not have a queen. His consort Marie-Josephine, died in 1810, 5 years before he ascended the throne, and he never remarried. Thus Augussta, Phinn and their party did not meet a king and queen in Versailles. Tsk, tsk, that was far easier to verify than the name of the manager of their hotels in Munich and Vienna (sources thanked in acknowledgements).

A slow burn, but I just loved this fully believable romance.
