I had forgotten how hard it is to read poetry. I didn't think much of this book until I started reading the poems aloud like a crazy person. (I hope my neighbors enjoyed that, since I was on the balcony!) Still definitely missed a lot of the meaning, but the language was beautiful and there were a few images that really stuck with me.

My favorites:
...each terminal dark
With how today is not tomorrow.
(from "Palms Facing Out and Away From the Body")

...To begin again
Is to have no idea where this will go
As we climb around each other
Raising dust.
(from "Sheetrock")

This is the first poetry collection I've ever read. A bit nervous, I decided to annotate the text while reading it (I'm a book purist--I don't write in books under any circumstances, so this was a bit scandalous to me). As someone who doesn't take the time to read poetry of their own volition, this was amazing. Even the poems that were too abstract for me to understand had something to offer. I didn't feel lost or bored, and in all honesty I finished this in just a few hours. I'll check out other poetry collections from now on. I loved these.
