Awakened by the Wolf – so much fun! I loved Cassidy right from the beginning. She’s not afraid to fight back, even when it’s against a werewolf…or, to be more politically correct, Wahyas. Cassidy doesn’t know most of the people surrounding her are wolf shifters, and it comes at a great shock when the future alpha of Walker’s Run sneaks home to his grandmother’s after a long absence and shows up in Cassidy’s–his–bedroom. She’s less than pleased to be woken up by a large, naked man, and the fight is on.

Cassidy’s life hasn’t been the easiest. Her alcoholic mom basically traded her body for the basics, and Cassidy is determined not to be like her mother, even if she has to handle everything on her own. She refuses handouts almost to the point of being unable to accept kindness, which is so sad, and yet I really admired her fierce independence. But her fear of relying on anyone else, needing anyone else, is a huge hindrance to her relationship with Brice and others. Still, she has a soft heart and I really liked her.

And then there’s Brice, Alpha-heir to the pack. He’s been through a lot too and has some serious soul wounds and long-term misunderstandings to overcome, but he’s not afraid to go after what he wants: Cassidy, of course. The banter between the two as they grow to know each other and while Cassidy comes to terms with the whole existence of Wahyas brought a lot of smiles. And the push-pull romance is swoon worthy. If you like shifters, sassy heroines, and alpha heroes, Awakened by the Wolf doesn’t disappoint.

I DNF'd at 50%. I just could not get into this story, I was so bored. I disliked both of the main characters. The guy was a cocky jerk and she didn't really have a personality. I felt zero chemistry between these two characters.

Brice Walker and his brother were set upon. His older brother who is the alpha in waiting was killed and Brice spent time in a coma recovering. The guilt riding him is deep and he lives under the misguided assumption that he has been banned from his pack. When his grandmother takes ill Brice sneaks back onto the pack compound to see her. What he finds though is a human occupying his bedroom. The sparks fly from the moment they meet and destiny is set in motion.

Cassie has been fighting the legacy of being the daughter of a trailer trash drunk for years. Slowly but surely she’s worked her way up and out after burying her mom a couple years back. Having worked for Brice’s grandmother as a housekeeper since her early teens she moved in when the trailer park was condemned and she lost the only home she had. Now she works for the family resort while putting herself through college. With granny’s hospitalization, her housing situation is in jeopardy once again. That is unless she can come to some kind of arrangement with Brice.

This book takes you on a roller coaster ride with a little bit of humor, fear, angst and so on. It was a good read and enjoyable. This is the first time I read a book from this author and will continue with the series. I recommend this series it is a good paranormal story.

I have voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

“Sometimes our best intentions are our worst mistakes.

I like reading paranormal romances but I'm not that a fan. I actually don't know what to expect from this book. But based on the synopsis, I might enjoy reading this.

I am happy to know that Ms. Kristal Hollis is a psychology degree holder like me. Anyway, here's my review:

Who wouldn't be scared of a wolf? Haha. I like the "wolfan non grata" thing. That is very unique and new.

Brice character is sexy and funny. I'm giving him thumbs up for his confidence, patience and self-control. But I don't like how he's not willing to move on and move forward with his past. He was blinded by lies that made him irrational.

As for Cassie, I don't really know. I kind of don't like her character. Though I like how she thinks that she should be independent and all. But I don't understand why she keeps on dodging Brice every time he invited her for lunch or dinner. Is she portraying a hard-to-get or what? I understand that her mother did something, things just to live but I think it is just a simple invitation and just being kind to her. I hate Cassie for being closed minded. Sometimes her stand of being independent is not good and she became selfish.

The hot and cold game between Brice and Cassie keeps the story going. But also, the twists gave the spice in this story. I did not expect the twist with Hadler and Booker. I definitely did not see that coming. Oh, also, I love how Ms. Kristal use Pavlov's experiment in her book.

Overall, I'm giving this 3.5 star. I felt that the story was slow in the middle and I sometimes hate Cassie for being selfish. But, I really enjoyed reading and I hope to read the next book.
