It felt like it was dragging and I just wasn't really getting into it. The, I found out  the series isn't likely to ever be finished

I found this book really wonderful. It had all the things I like best about fantasy - a thoroughly thought out plot, a strong and wilful narrator, death defying shenanigans, seemingly impossible tasks, and a good dose of humour on occasion.

I enjoyed the way the book was split into past and present, flipping to first person point of view web Kvothe is narrating his tale, and third person when at the inn in the present.

The characters were interesting and engaging, and the world building was detailed and beautiful.

I highly recommend this book.

The words I'd use to describe this book are comforting and familiar.

Not what I'd expected from a book that's been so widely praised and loudly derided. Kvothe is compelling enough, the Chandrian are interesting enough, and I'm curious about the way magic works here. But there's nothing new here. No groundbreaking world building. It's just, incredibly safe.

It's not surprising then that the biggest flaw is Rothfuss' inability to trust his own writing. After a while, telling us that things are going to get worse loses its effect. Show us, hint at it, allow us a moment if happiness without commentary, and let us remember that he ends up alone, presumed dead, running an inn, and that of course he's going to lose everything. Trust us. Trust yourself.

(The other major flaw is, of course, "the paucity of women". Adding one woman who remains largely an idea and an ideal for men to discuss over drinks, does not fix this problem.)

But mostly, he needs to take a risk. Then maybe it'd be a book worth all the hype, good and bad, as opposed to simply an enjoyable read.

I loved this book! I am immediately reading book 2 and anything else I can get my hands on and not thinking about book 3. I put this series off forever because it wasn't finished but people kept talking about it and I didn't want ti spoiled so I finally caved. It is great! I want more!!!

Reallly gorgeous writing, it was some of the most lyrical prose I've ever had the pleasure of reading. I found that the language overshadowed the actual story, however, and the characters just didn't feel real or interesting to me, and the magic system and worldluilding didn't quite make sense, as well as the fact that not a lot actually... happened in the book? Don't let that discourage you though, the writing is diviiine and it really was a nice read. Just perhaps a little much for someone of my age, I'd like to reread/continue the series when I'm a little older. Overall a lovely story with very interesting events.
