It was a really good book and taught me a lot about how Marvel started and who started it.

The younger kids at the library have been excited about the Who Is …?/Who Was …? series for awhile. So, I had wanted to read a title in order to see what all the hoopla was about. I get it now. This series is an excellent introduction to the biography genre for grade school age kids! I loved getting to know Stan Lee and learning about his life. A wonderful addition to the biographical story is the inset pages with bits about historical events, authors who he read as a child, and some of the Marvel villains. Plus the excellent bibliography will give kids a place to go if they just have to know more. This particular title is a sure to be a hit with fans of Spider-Man, Iron Man, and Thor. It was great to get to know the man behind the comics!

Stan Lee is a national treasure. I am a big fan of Marvel comics and now Marvel films. How wonderful that he has gotten to see his characters come to life on film and be in them as well. Can't wait to see his next cameo.

Read this one with the Kiddo as part of his summer reading choices for school.

This is a straightforward and accessible telling of the life of Stan Lee, and also a good synopsis of the history of Marvel Comics. In between the important events of Stan Lee's life and career are sidebars that go into the important events in world history and in the history of comics at the time, as well as features on Marvel characters and comics, and brief bios of a couple of other important creators who were instrumental in the early years of Marvel.

This was a good book for making the connections between Marvel's stories, and the history that was going on while the stories were being written and drawn.

Some of the more controversial aspects of Lee's life, such as the ongoing intellectual property dispute with Jack Kirby, were smoothed over as one might expect in a biography for young readers, but they were not entirely ignored.

The Kiddo (age 10 and a Marvel fan) enjoyed learning a bit more of the origins of his favorite characters.

This short biography is amazing! I’ve never been a fan of reading comic books, but I love all the movies! It’s great to learn about the person behind the awesome superheroes and how he got his start!

I liked it. When he was little his mom bought him this stand that kept his book upright because he read at the table - he liked it so much.
