Maddie Baker is exactly what you need: smart, funny and can’t stay out of trouble through no fault of her own. I love everything about her and am thrilled this is the start to a new series. Noah wasn’t as immediately likeable as Maddie but I warmed up to him pretty quickly. There’s humor and lots of teasing but this is a mystery first and foremost, which I love. Noah and Maddie are great together but things between them don’t unfold as I expected. It doesn’t end with a cliffhanger per se, but everything isn’t neatly wrapped up at the end either. There’s a lot of action and a great supporting cast and I just want more Maddie, Noah, Lance and Cockamamie TN.

Fans of Denise Grover Swank have been eagerly anticipating this new series and it does not disappoint!!
DGS is known for her kick-ass, relatable heroines. Maddie might be my new favorite!
Maddie Baker is one tough cookie who has a huge heart and unwittingly gets caught up in a murder investigation. This puts her in the path of Detective Noah Langley, a no-nonsense grump who considers Maddie a person of interest. Of course this only adds to the sizzling chemistry between them!
I already love the characters we meet in Cockamamie, Tennessee and I can’t wait to learn more about them.
As readers have come to expect from DGS, this story has wry humor, fantastic dialogue and an intriguing fast-paced storyline that leaves you wanting more!

DGS never disappoints

Didn’t think I could get sucked into another place like I did with the Rose Gardner stories, but indeed I did. DGS knocks ur out of the park again.

New absolute favorite author. This is the second book I’ve read of hers and I’ve loved them both! This book was amazing. There’s mystery. There’s action. There’s a building romance/attraction. And a kick ass FMC. This is only the first book so there’s not a conclusion on the relationship. But there is so much to enjoy about it. Maddie is not a damsel in distress. It’s nice to see a woman in a dangerous situation but not completely relying on the MMC. Noah has so many layers to his character and I’m excited to read more about him. But not only him them both!

Great start

I was a little worried starting a new series by Denise Grover Swank that it would be hard to compare to her Rose Gardner series, but this was excellent. I think Maddie is a fun, interesting character. Noah is one of those guys you can’t help cheering for, even when he’s being a stubborn pain. And the side characters are easy to picture as well, to see as if they were real people. Truly enjoyed this read.

3.5 stars. It's description and title will lead you to believe this is a light hearted read. Maybe not quite a cozy mystery, but along those lines. It's not. Some trigger warnings would have been nice. The book deals with pedophilia, rape, kidnapping, care taking for someone with dementia. Those can be some heavy topics for survivors to just happen upon.
My other issue is having read Ms Swank's Rose Gardener series (highly recommend btw) I don't think this veers far enough away from that. Sure detail are changed, but it also feels a lot like every series she's wrote since Rose, have been a regurgitation.
