Completely Phenomenal. Such an interesting life and relationship to be able to see inside, the writing is beautiful, like you're hearing someone's inner most monologue quietly in the middle of the night. As soon as the book ended I was over come by what I can only describe as missing two people I'd never met.

fun read, the vibes was great, and its interesting to look at how an artist grows and to learn about their muse and the people around them.

First, non-fiction in 2024, and it is the memoir of Patti Smith. I didn't know her at first, but I saw her book anywhere.  And, it makes me want to know her story. There is nothing too much to say, since it is a non-fiction, I love to follow Patti Smith and Robert relationship towards years, how both each other gives much love and support together.

"We promised that we'd never leave one another again, until we both knew we were ready to stand on our own. And this vow, through everything we were yet to go through, we kept."

A beautiful story told by a beautiful person, a perfect time capsule of one of the most fascinating periods in music and art, and a tender portrayal of her relationship with Robert Mapplethorpe. It was almost like reading an encyclopaedia on my favourite subjects and it introduced me to so many wonderful albums and bands I’d never bothered to really listen to until now.

Patti’s words are honest, genuine, without any pretence, yet so poetic and lyrical, reading this felt like being transported to this time. To be able to see the world through her eyes is a privilege. The respect and love with which she remembers Robert and his work and their relationship is so moving, it was hard not to shed at tear many times throughout the book - especially at the end with her vivid descriptions of Robert’s last moments and the monumental feeling of grief she must have felt.

I LOVED THIS obviously!! Definitely one to return to in a few years time just because it was SUCH a joyful read. My respect for Patti Smith has gone up a million levels. Truly a living legend! Now I know what Raquel was always talking about ☺️

"Yet Robert and I had explored the frontier of our work and created space for each other. When I walked on the stages of the world without him I would close my eyes and picture him taking off his leather jacket, entering with me the infinite land of a thousand dances."
