I read all 900 pages but it was just so-so. The first book didn't have a satisfying resolution and I'm not sure I understood the politics. Books 2&3 were tighter, more interwoven. But overall, predictable.
*Spoilers ahead*
I still think there was the big question (what causes some people to be sourcerers and others not?) should have been addressed. I think there was a lot of potential in that plot line. I also disliked that she put so much effort into The River and tinaje but really didn't go anywhere. Never explained the deeper card reading she did .. was that Ran's magic? Does Theo have magic? Was that some dark otherworld?

I started this and it was all right but it didn't grab me, so I took it back to the library. Might try again another time.
