Even though I didn't like this middle book in the trilogy *quite* as much as I liked the first, I still very much enjoyed it. The setting is vivid and interesting, the characters are colorful and appealing, and Jane continues to learn and grow through her experiences, which makes her feel authentic and relatable. There's plenty of action in the story to keep it exciting. Romance is more central to this story than the first one, but it remains pretty light. Jane's jealousy and confusion, especially in love, mark her as a young woman who's still learning to be confident and sure. Again, this makes her feel like a real person. Sure, she's irritating sometimes, but she's also brave, compassionate, and loyal. I'm reading the last book now and I'm definitely anxious to see how her story ends!

I truly thought Jehu was a dreamboat. Yes, the love interest’s name is Jehu. That’ll tell you everything you need to know about this series.

I love this author, and I love Boston Jane! I will be buying this three-book series for my girls to read.

This is the second book in the Boston Jane series. I HAD to read it. The love blossoming between Jebediah and Jane is awesome! Jane is a fierce young lady fighting to fit in I love it.

Great story, great sequel, though it did fall short of my expectations with the strong beginning.
However, it was still good, and I felt that it added to the beginning book nicely.

I would say more, but it has been too long since I last read it...guess I might have to revisit the old bookshelf!

I enjoyed the reread of this as it was one of my favourite books as a teen. The author has her character deal with a lot of hardship and suffering, but puts enough funny things in to make the overall vibe entertaining.

This book is not as good as the first, but it’s still a nice read. It has one of my least favorite tropes: a conflict that could easily be resolved by one conversation. Also, Jane makes a LOT of foolish decisions, which becomes frustrating after a while. Still, it ties the first and third book together, and there are some characters introduced who I really love.

Ah, Boston Jane. I loved this series so much as a kid. They're so endearing for how stubborn she is, and how adorably stupid she can be. ("Jane, he loves you, you absolute blockhead," is something I repeated to myself approximately 700 times in the first 100 pages.) What I really appreciate about the writing though is that it's totally from her perspective so while it's obvious to the reader why a character might react the way they are, Jane's only telling it like she sees it. I remember from reading it as a kid that her "unreliable-ness" as a narrator was very validating and easy to empathize with. The adventure in this one didn't resound with me the same way her settling in the first one did, but I still enjoyed it a lot. Can't wait to continue on to read the third!
