I promised myself that I would introduce a new genre of reading to my "normal" reading choices. WHAT a great way to start off my promise! Marianne Morea has written a story for more than just young adults. She's melded her adult writing style into a new story that has the potential to, imho, ROCK the sparkly vampire stories.

Sleepy Hollow has always held a fascination for me, and Hunter & Rowen will keep it alive. What young people go through in their daily lives holds sway in this story, as well as, their family stories, making them the teenagers that they are today. Hunter moved away with his family when he was younger, but upon the separation of his parents, his mom and he decided to move back to Sleepy Hollow. Enter, Rowen, still finding her way into womanhood, and going against the popular current, she's questioning her feelings about everything. Including Hunter. Together they move forward in their relationship, and with a project from their English teacher that is bound to cause some problems with the "townies".

The perfect time to read this story is Autumn. The solstice and Halloween figure large in this first book, and it's going to make you want to come back for more.

This is a lovely read! The author does such an amazing job weaving both fact and fiction together and making it believable and interesting. It really pulls the reader in and gets them involved in the story. You need to keep turning the pages because you are trying to figure out the mystery as well.. It’s just such a wonderful read for YA and even NA lovers as well. It’s not really going to miss the older audience, I think it could capture any age. The plot is interesting, there’s a good bit of supernatural, some romance, and a lot of great writing! Overall, this is a wonderful book that I highly recommend.

I’ve always loved anything to do with ‘The Legend of Sleepy Hollow’ and this book puts a modern spin on it, taking place in the actual town. I was hooked right away.

I particularly enjoyed how the FMC didn’t keep her visions from her mom; the whole ‘teenagers thinking they need to sort out everything themselves while hiding it from the adults in their lives’ is suuuper tired, IMO.

The FMC is also self aware, strong, smart and easy to relate to in many ways, which adds to the reading experience.

While the author did an admirable job of merging true life history into a fiction read, there were some continuity issues overall that took me out of the story at times.
And while this is a YA book, I’d not recommend it for impressionable/ younger teens due to a couple of things: a boy attempts to rape a girl and she does nothing/tells no one about it and there’s an instance of a girl clearly being peer-pressured into having sex (for the first time) with a guy she doesn’t want to. It IS a YA book though, MCs are all in high school.

Overall:
Author did a great job with this, with character development and I’d like to check out more from the author. This was a somewhat addictive read that had me missing it at times when I wasn’t in it.

4 stars.

Note:
Audible narrator has a very pleasant, smooth voice, generally but when she branches out into different voices, and attempts accents, it’s fairly painful. Would be a better experience as an ebook or with a different narrator, possibly. Would rather avoid listening to anything else this one’s done.
