I loved this book! The stories of the author and her patient are stories about what it means to be human. I laughed and I cried.

A nice step inside my own head

I appreciate when self analysis and self improvement books are narrated with real talk that reflects conversations over drinks or coffee/tea rather than being at a seminar. A therapist sharing her human-ness and revealing what's behind the art/science/dance of her professional therapy practice, and particularly her own use of therapy, fits the bill.

"But what are we so afraid of? It’s not as if we’re going to peer in those darker corners, flip on the light, and find a bunch of cockroaches. Fireflies love the dark too. There’s beauty in those places. But we have to look in there to see it. My business, the therapy business, is about looking."

Very touching book! I read this when I was preparing to be a therapist, so it was a very interesting time to dig into this book.
