Was enjoyable, but bit of a letdown not knowing it was a collection of short stories.
I liked most stories that didn't involve too much fighting because the swordfights were too repetitive. Unfortunately, this is a problem of the English language as the readers of the original said the Polish language made it fun to read.

Absolutely hated it. I've never played the games but I know people who have. And obviously a lot of people love this series, but it just wasn't for me. The last short story, where the book gets its title from, is what ruined it. There was no reason for Geralt's actions, or for his sudden affection for a woman who treated him like dirt and essentially mind raped him. Yennefer came across as horrible with no redeeming qualities. Definitely will not be reading any more of these books.

The Witcher 3 might still be my favourite game of all time, so reading this for the first time somehow feels like an old favourite. Seeing these characters in their early days, and seeing names teased for the future, just scratched that lovely nostalgic part of my brain. Not to mention that on their own merit, these short stories are all very enjoyable and I think perfectly paced for their length. Add on the overarching narrative that ties them all together, and this is a wonderful introduction to the world of the Witcher Books.
Olipas kivoja novelleja.

They say to read this before the others for context but I honestly feel it’s not that entertaining and a little confusing having not read the main series. It’s short stories that make it difficult to get drawn in.
