A day in the life of a pill bug. Hank passes by a lot of things and places and eventually meets a friend named Amelia. They do fun things together as he can see the world from her height. He passes by all the things and places he saw earlier and falls asleep under his rock at last.

This is very cute, and I like the choice to illustrate Amelia as a black girl. I thought the illustrations were spectacular! However, the story doesn't have a very good flow for reading out loud. It might appeal more to kids who are starting to read on their own.

Ever wonder what a bug does all day? Students can brainstorm ideas and then follow along in this story as they follow Hank, the pill bug, through a typical day. He eventually meets his human friend, Amelia (who happens to be dressed like Amelia Earhart), and the two of them embark on an imaginary flight to Paris. This book is filled with lots of imagination, and shows friendship between two unlikely characters. Additional positives include having a female, person of color as the main character and showcasing a girl who enjoys playing outside and is not afraid of bugs.

Had a great time reading this to my kids, especially to the beginning reader who noticed I was skipping the textual asides and started reading them himself. Probably better for one-on-one reading or an older storytime; just right for exploring friendships and bugs.

Might inspire a reader to go find their own Hank and explore the world outside.

I love the idea of exploring the daily adventures of a pill bug. Everyone has a story!

Very sweet (and informative) illustrations accompany a sweet story following Hank's, the pillbug, day as he travels from one place to another.
