i'll read a few more volumes and see if i'll continue this series
The first volume of a manga where a 14 year old male, Ko, wants to fall in love with Vampire female Nazuna, unknown age, so that when she drinks his “super delicious blood” he will become a Vampire too! But what is love? (Baby don’t hurt me.) and what do friends look like?
If, stretch here, you look at this series as a representation for depression and struggling with mental illness and insomnia then I could see where this could turn into nothing in terms of the weird relationship between our two initial cast. But I’m holding harsh reactions for at least volume 2, which I’m excited to buy! Not often I get a physical volume locally, so I’m glad it was a decent read.
All reviews will be eventually extended via our social media under @thelibraryfromscratch . We are still getting settled into our home, so the library isn’t quite finished (unlike my manga shelves!). Thank you for reading this review, and stay tuned for the next one!

I liked the idea of this book but have a hard time with anything that sexualizes teens

Not my thing. (I don't read manga.) But it was cute.
Midnight strolls that lead to vampires.
Yamori is an insomniac who decides to go out at night to pass the time. On his first venture out, he meets Nanakusa, a vampire who likes to have a good time. On their adventure around town, Yamori discovers he enjoys being around Nanakusa and enjoys the silence of the night. Together, the two explore life at night and the life of a vampire.
This volume features eight chapters with each chapter being one night out! The transition between chapters is a continuous plot with minor adventures throughout the story. Little is revealed about Yamori and Nanakusa but more is slowly revealed in each chapter. The dynamic between the characters is interesting but slow at times. The romance is somewhat awkward with the middle schooler and the vampire, but nothing scandalous. The illustrations are good and reflective of the mood of the story. The shading captures the tone of the story. The dialogue between characters is insightful and brief.
An interesting story but not particularly exciting.

This was better than I expected. I'm a big fan of vampire stories, I mean my favorite movie is The Lost Boys, and I grew up on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. This was pretty different and I think that's a good thing. I was kind of scared since a lot of Vampire tropes lean into the sexual side, and I may sound like a hypocrite, but it's the way someone does it. Like Silver Under Nightfall is an adult book with adult themes, but I loved the way the "spice" was written, it wasn't vulgar. I like first Future Diary, because at least in the first volume, the sexual nature wasn't vulgar to me...I know it might change, but that's how I view the first one.
Now with this, it was technically sexual...but it kind of seems like it's poking fun at the genre and twisting it to their own way. And this was kind of funny, it was humorous while having a somewhat serious topic. I do wish he was older, but oh well, he's a fun MC to follow.
1. Call of the Night
2. Future Diary
