I found it very insightful as to how a inter-ascendency adoption might feel like for the child, that need to belong that we all have and experience, can definitely take other dimensions when we talk about adoption and different ethnic backgrounds. Children always want to see in their parents their own resemblance, find themselves in their family.
The rest, well, it explores the difficulties of the mother-daughter relationship, it can be strained and wonderful, painful at times.
I really enjoyed this book.

Thanks to NetGalley and Kaylie Jones Books for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I'll state out front that I am an adoptee so I'm always looking for books from an adoptee POV so this book is something that doesn't show the bright side of adoption and I do appreciate that. I also like how the book addresses issues like domestic violence, violence against women, and sexual assault. With that in mind, however, I felt the book was all over the place as it jumps from past to present and dives into a lot of topics about adoption but only skims the surface and really just focuses on not being loved which I think should have just been the focal point (again from the POV of me, an adoptee). The ending also seemed rushed as it got really, really dark then all of a sudden she just stopped.
For someone who is an adoptive parent, I would recommend this read since it does start the conversation on the other side of adoption.
