I am a fan of Douglas Preston, and Wyman Ford is one of my favorite protagonists. This one, however, was a miss. It was not as thrilling, on the edge of your seat exciting, or as well written as I expect from Preston. The characters were not people I wanted to root for or against, they were just...there. Wyman Ford was sort of along for the ride and didn't get to actually do much. I need to go back and re-read Tyrannosaur Canyon now to remove the bitter taste this weak version of Wyman Ford has left behind.

Not at all what I thought I was getting into, but pleasantly, surprised.

This story was fast-paced and intriguing through and through. Lots of action, suspense, and drama that brought on some tense moments. Characters are comfortable and familiar in the sci-fi space. The story felt real like it could happen today and even with a futuristic scope, it still felt believable.Nothing about this story is difficult or confusing to read and the reader will develop a connection with the main character.

All in all, a good read. Recommended.

It was an interesting concept about sentient AI. All of Preston's book always have that "it could happen" feel. I enjoyed the ride.

What an enormous, poorly researched, badly written mess this is.

An interesting story about what will happen if a strong AI freaks out about its mission and escapes into the Internet. The surreal conversations between Melissa (its programmer) and 'Dorothy' (The AI) makes for compelling reading and equally interesting thoughts of whether it really is a good idea to make such a computer program.
The scenario in itself makes the book and interesting read, it becomes even more interesting when various players and organisations learn of it and want to capture 'Dorothy' for their own selfish needs.
This book will certainly make you re-think about your relationships between programs and real existences.

A decent enough premise. Wyman Ford was fairly irrelevant.

I wasn't sure I would finish this book but after keeping with it I ended up really liking the story.

DNF after 70 pages.

I can't believe this is from Douglas Preston. It feels like somebody on the street came up with this. Somebody who shouldn't write books.

The idea sounded so good, I thoughg this would be like Michael Crichton's 'Prey' or something, but this AI was WEIRD and the plot went to chaos so quickly, it was very disappointing.
