Enjoyable romcom with a musical twist. I appreciated the aspects of foster parenting and training to be a PA.

Latinx Romeo and Juliet

Loved this story. I will admit that a couple oftimes, the author was a little heavy handed with Texas references, but they are things that are iconic to the state. I listened and read this, and the author and narrator did a great job of mixing Spanglish through out the novel, to where it flowed seamlessly. I could almost feel myself there when the author described the Mariachi performances, and was a little sad that I wasn't. I can't wait to read more from this author!

West Side Love Story by Priscilla Oliveras is a Latinx romance and book one of the Queens of Mariachi series.

This story is about a family who has fostered and adopted many girls and helped them focus their energy on creating music! The family forms a mariachi band that is set to compete against a rival family.

West Side Love Story is a play on Romeo and Juliet/West Side Story. It centers specifically around Mariana, the oldest adopted sibling, who is an ER nurse. She's determined to help her family win the Mariachi band competition. But what happens when a member from a feuding family and Mariachi band catches her heart?

I absolutely enjoyed this story so much and can't believe that this book sat on my shelf since last summer!!! It's such a beautiful, modern-day, cozy love story. With these feuding families, you definitely get the star-crossed lovers and forbidden romance vibes. I enjoyed the drama aspect between families.

I rooted for Mariana and Angelo from the moment they graced the pages together. I felt their connection instantly. They are both the rock of their families and are perfect together. Love this story so much and will be diving into book 2 right away!

Fun twist..

I love the West Side Story except for the end, so was thankful this story had a happy ending. Great storytelling and educational story on the culture.

West Side Story retelling. I love my musicals and West Side Story is a favorite. This is that type of a story. Two young people meet on New Years Eve and share a kiss that neither of them can forget. They part, no names exchange, and assume they will never see each other again. Until they do, and they realize that their families are in a lifelong feud.

The book seemed to me to start slow. There was much background given on the families, sometimes it felt like to much. I was in a hurry to get to the romance, to the drama, and to the families getting past the feud. I found myself skimming some paragraphs and looking for the dialogue. There was a lot of information given about the Capuleta family but not as much about the Montero family, in terms of the feud I was needing the same amount of information about both families.

West Side Love Story was easy to read, the romance was fun, the Capuleta family was amazing with their foster family being so full of love. I would recommend it to anyone who loves the West Side Story type of story. If you are not Spanish speaking there are some phrases that you will not know, but I was able to move past them and get the just of the conversation.
