Cute way to kick off Hispanic heritage month

West side love story is a Romeo and Juliet/ west side story retelling with an adorable HEA

Our main characters are much older which I appreciated a lot. I was however disappointed at the fade to black love scenes. I guess the characters being Latino was spicy enough

I really don’t have other words to describe this story other than cute
medium-paced

I smiled at the West Side Story lyrics that were included in dialog.

I know that contemporary romance is not my typical genre but at the time I wanted something that wasn't fantasy and this book seemed like a good choice.
It was actually a good read and I enjoyed it. It is a heart-stirring romance of star-crossed love, feuding familias, and the bonds of sisterhood.
It features the tropes of forbidden romance and found family. The story is a Romeo and Juliette And West Side Story reimagining in the modern world.

West Side Love Story is a fun and sweet story with really good family dynamics. This is a romance mixed with strong family dynamics. Family is important and plays a huge role in the book.
There is also a lot of Spanglish in the book, but that doesn't affect your reading if you are not a Spanish-speaker.

Mariana just wants to help her family, any way she can. She and her sisters are a mariachi band, the only all female band in her city, and she needs to be laser focused to help them win the Battle of the Bands. Because their parents need the money to keep their community center open. Her only distraction? A NYE kiss with a sexy stranger, who she later finds out is Angelo Montero--her competitor in the battle and the nephew of her father's sworn enemy.

This was a cute star-crossed love story. The beef between Mariana's father and Angelo's uncle got some heft from the added subplot of shady loans, ICE intimidation, and gentrification worries and though it spun me a little, I was glad of that. The original beef by itself though emotional, would have felt flimsy and petty standing alone. Mariana was plagued with all the doubts that come with family loyalty and falling in love and I liked that too. I also loved the Angelo was solution oriented from the start. He wasn't a man who wallowed, and I appreciated it. He stood up for himself, and he made me wish Mariana had done more of that, especially with Catalina. But Angelo had pain too, and those glimpses into it rounded out his character. Brenda and Nina's friendship made for a great subplot as well. I will say that the writing itself sometimes dragged for me--a lot of Mariana's internal monologue was repetitive and her angst was sometimes exhausting. I wanted to shake her and tell her to get a grip. Her history eased some of that though. And her family was too loud a voice in her head and though I understood, I found myself wishing she were free of it. In all, I enjoyed this. It made me want to revisit the classics. And they got an adorable HEA.

This was a really cute retelling of West Side Story with a Latinx twist. I really enjoyed watching the budding love story and love both main characters have for their siblings. I’m looking forward to more from this author.
