This was a 2-star book, but half the page count is the sketchbook, which goes through the whole thing again page-by-page. I guess that'd be fun if you wanted to learn how this stuff is laid out, but what the fuck, that's like putting together 22 minutes of deleted scenes (which were deleted for a reason) as half the runtime of a 22 minute sitcom.

So, because it's twice as much book with the same amount of story, the stars are halved. This is science, I'm not in control of it.

This book is about 152 pages long and 48 pages of it is story, with the last page just being a picture of a squid. It's a good story, but I should have noticed maybe that the "sketchbook" part of this book is most of it. Every page of the comic gets 2 pages of sketchbook, literally; it's the rough page by page side-by-side with the final sketched page you just read in color. It's useful in that way if you are considering working on comics to see how this process worked.

If you're just into the story, I dunno, maybe it was a one-shot comic that could have been sold for like $4.95-$12.95 and you can save yourself the hardcover price and the shelf space.

Artwork was ok, but what the HELL was the story? Ugh.

I feel very sad. I have never disliked anything Gaiman has written. Until now.

I think much of my dislike has to do with the mix of lycanthropy and Cthulhu legends. I can get behind a werewolf story any day of the week, but Cthulhu? Not so much. I also found the illustrations distracting. The faces were too caricature, which is sometimes a good thing, but did not seem so here.

Everyone is entitled to one clunker.
