I love this book. It is so beautifully written, and well thought out. Modernism is really my favorite period of literature, and I would be so excited to teach this book because there is just so much that it contains. It is definitely a message that still resonates today--even though someone may seem to have it all, a glamorous lifestyle, they are really just hollow and empty inside, or perhaps dealing with their own inner demons they are trying to deny. Almost 100 years later and these ideas are still relevant. Why do we care so much for elaborate parties and the goings-on of the rich folks in this country? I know that I fall prey to it as well (I can't help it--I love watching the Real Housewives), but why do people seem more interesting (or more worthwhile) because they have more money? Gatsby is one of the Great American Novels.
