I honestly can't tell if I read this book before or not and I think that might tell you all you need to know! I read this series in an order only determined by their availability at the library and after the first book (which I very much enjoyed) most of the sequels haven't left much of an impression. I started out sure I hadn't read it and then halfway through I became very confused confused.

I didn't enjoy this one that much to be honest and this is mainly because every time Greggory opens his mouth there will probably be a misogynistic comment in there. It makes sense that he is like this - the man fights witches for a living! - it is even historically accurate with the time period the book is set in (possibly even progressive at times) but it isn't fun to read at all. Every time Tom says something like about Alice not deserving to be killed or tortured horribly his responses boil down to "this is what happens to girls with pointy shoes and you shouldn't worry about it." I do understand that a major part of this book is about how the spook is a hypocrite but I didn't like listening to the stream of negativity OR watching the spook's character get clowned on.
