"N" - My 2024 Alphabet Challenge

My mum recommended this to me.
She's someone who would build a bunker under her house with food and supplies to survive on if war ever happened.
Having read this, she now wants to drive to ground zero and be evaporated instantly.
I agree.
As the author says at the end, "Nuclear War is insane"

This book is equal parts fascinating, informative, and utterly terrifying.

I am...scared

An utterly terrifying and sobering book, but one that everyone should read. In excruciating but necessary detail, Annie Jacobsen sets out how one irrational choice leads to a cascade of decisions based upon imperfect information and made under immense pressure.

This book makes you realise that everything you see as permanent, as enduring and as informed isn't so. That even the President of the United States of America doesn't know what to do. It makes you see the utterly irrational decisions made to kill even more people just to fulfil the enforcement of nuclear deterrence doctrine.

We can only hope that such decisions don't get made.

Absolutely chilling and incredibly fascinating. The amount of investigation and research that went into this book is clear on every page. This book was a really quick read thanks to its gripping material and the author’s writing style. My only criticism is that the writing was a bit repetitive at times but this isn’t enough of a problem to bring it down from a 5 star review. I recommend this as strongly as possible.

Without question, the most horrifying book I’ve ever read.

This book reads like a great disaster movie but it’s a frighteningly real scenario of what would happen in a world war fought with nuclear weapons. The outcome is,  it surpassingly, horrifically devastating. She also convincingly shows how close we are to this actually happening. A must read.

This book is a case study of what could happen if North Korea and the US get involved in a nuclear war.  The answer is not good, haha!  The author has done a lot of research and talked to many people about what would happen if we were in a Nuclear war.  She divides each section into what could happen at a particular time point and continues that way until 25,000 years post the nuclear war (obviously the end chapters skip a lot in time).  This book was billed as the scariest book ever and it is pretty scary to think that this could happen at any time, but I hope it never does.  It definitely makes you think a lot about it during and after you finish it.

This book was amazing from the first page (sucked me in immediately!), but it was honestly too anxiety-inducing for my brain to continue reading. Maybe I'll try again one day, but probably this is for people who are a little more mentally sturdy.
