A fascinating account of Florence with emphasis on Girolamo Savonarola and Nicolo Macchiaveli. Since I'll be visiting Florence next month this gave me some background on the last decade of the 14th century. There are some minor errors but I found it gave me a taste of Flroence in the time of Savonarola who is treated sympathetically, but without showing some of his defects. Macchiaveli's character is a little less developed than Savonarola's but this will help if I decide to read more Machiavelli.
