The tribute artist is completely meh, and the Eisner tales were later turned into Spirit strips, so it's really nothing essential for anyone. Except that it does reveal Eisner--along with the fact that he wrote military training comic books for over 30 years under contract--as a far right winger. I once thought the Spirit was just a delightful exercise in form that evoked Noir, but I guess when Eisner got rich very quickly (he bragged about being very rich as early as 1946 and his biggest successes were yet To come) he turned as right wing as anyone.

Includes a brief history of Eisner and the reason that this was never previously published. Some of the stories were redrawn with John Law being replaced by The Spirit and his orphan shoe-shine sidekick Nubbin' being turned into that racist caricature.
The stories are kind of standard. I remember there's one where a kid almost drowns in lye.
