Love the Patel and Pardon series! This is the 3rd one I’ve read, and can’t wait to read the 4th. Love Jerry, with all his funny remarks and phrases, and all the nicknames they give people. This wasn’t my favourite book in the series but I still enjoyed it. Make me so uncomfortable the scene where the “aborted baby” crawled back into the woman in bed, I was squeamish! Felt like the ending was kinda rushed in the end, but still a very good book.

This book was devoured - quite the statement considering the subject matter but I found this an easy and entertaining horror read. The characters were well defined, although I didn't realise that the two main protagonists had been in a previous novel, but this didn't make any difference to my enjoyment. Lots of body horror, some gross out moments and some light laughs! The ending didn't 100% land for me, however, if you're looking for a horror novel that will keep you guessing then this will tick that box.

Graham Masterton remains unbeaten at body horror; the babies in this are gruesome and there are some really spine-crawling scenes involving them, some subtle, some off the charts. This was definitely my favourite part of The Children Who God Forgot - the rest fell a little flat for me, a bit too much overt exposition at the end rather than feeding the reader information piece by piece. I wasn’t at all invested in the two main characters (maybe through fault of my own as this is my first introduction to them!) and the subject matter seemed a little on the fence sometimes too. There were a few discriminatory jokes that I didn’t really feel had a place in the book as well. However this still wins points for creepiness and while I don’t always enjoy the writing, the horror is unmatched.

Okay so apparently I am most definetly in the minority with my thoughts on this review but I've had to DNF at Chapter 6.

There were so many things that I found problematic about this book that I just had to put it down for my own sanity.

I felt there was a lot of internalised racism that kept coming to the fore. I know, I know, bare with me a moment.

The typical white english doctor who kept mispronouncing the Nigerian patient's name. He made no attempt to ask how it was pronounced and the patient obviously had this over and over again from being in the UK.

Too much mysgony. Women being described in extremely sexual ways. It's not the blinking 80's!
One interaction between one of the police officers and another just smelt of homophobia. She turns him down when trying to ask her out, and he takes the hump as she "turns out to be the L in LGTBQ".

The Nigerian dialogue felt guessed at and a little bit insulting.

Oh yes and the classic quote "that vaping makes you smell like a poof." If its in the characterisation and it adds something to the storyline then okay but this just felt way too much and that was only in the first 6 chapters.

You would think that if you aborted a foetus it would stay aborted. But this is Graham Masterton and that just doesn't happen, especially when a powerful witch has other ideas. For DS Jamila Patel and DC Jerry Pardoe trying to figure out what is going on is not an easy task. Around them people are dying in the most horrible of ways and there is no logical explanation, but they have to find one.

This is a horror story with horrible deaths. Though at times it gets a bit repetitive and drawn out.
