Ohoo.

This book was a really fun ride and almost the whole time of reading it, I kept thinking back to watching Indiana Jones.
This was my second Dan Brown book and I think I've realized that I really like his writing style. It's fun and easy to get through, and the research and fun details of the places and history keep the setting dynamic.
Now I know that this is a work of fiction and that not everything in here was accurate and meant to be taken seriously but this was a fun adventure book that really changed up my month which brought a breath of enjoyment.
I do feel like the book was a little long, and might be able to do with some trimming since there were moments that felt very filler. Also, the lack of people in one of the busiest cities in the world was a little strange to me.
Near the end of the book I thought this was going to be a very "pro religion" stance but was pleasantly surprised with the twist and felt like the ending was almost a comment of "anti religion" -- I do feel like maybe the ending character deaths could have been handled better and some of the characteristics seemed a little off near the end but overall this was super action packed and reminded me of a puzzle adventure movie.

I wanted to know what all the hype was about... I get it now. Some of the writing choices are a bit clunky at points (eyes white like a shark comes to mind), but overall, it was impossible to put this book down. The pacing was excellent, the action packed scenes were very dynamic, and it was an enjoyable mystery, that even having a very strong suspicion of who the culprit was didn't ruin it at all–if anything it kept me reading just to find out if I was right and what the reasoning would be (I was and it left me open mouthed to hear the way someone can twist themselves into knots for their beliefs!). (I will say, this is very much not an intellectually deep book despite the subject matter, and it's not like it takes every brain cell to get in the groove of the thing. It's a very fun thriller, but anyone who thinks they're getting historical facts and a high brow book, well, turn elsewhere. It's just about a tweed wearing nerd who's like 6ft and swims, a hot and intelligent woman he has the hots for in the most inappropriate moments and a skip around the Vatican trying to solve a puzzle ((plus murder)). All the ingredients of a turn your brain off and enjoy the ride book!)

Is the Church compatible with science?
Very informative and well researched, around the topic of the Illuminati, the Church and the Vatican, as well as art and politics, which I found extremely interesting. The action takes place in a single day and is accordingly fast, has hardly any lengths and is mostly exciting. Nevertheless, I had the feeling that I was just watching from the outside, instead of being in the action, I was missing a bit. Nevertheless, definitely worth reading if you are interested in the basic topic.
By the way, the film with Tom Hanks is also not bad, but does not get to the book, as all the interesting details can of course not be included and some things have unfortunately been changed.
