The writing style kept me captivated even when the plot and characters fell flat in a given story. There’s something very original, almost fantastical, in Moore’s descriptions. Anywho. The only two stories I genuinely enjoyed were The Juniper Tree and Foes, both of which I laughed out loud during. Those two were also the most lighthearted of the bunch, so maybe that had something to do with it. The others could be pretty reflective on unhappy relationships / loneliness / the human condition. To the point where they were vaguely depressing but not to the point where they had any great revelations about the meaning of life. Though perhaps I’m not literary enough to understand their value.
