This was a fun, clever book. I don't do straight (i.e., non-fantasy) thriller/mystery very often, but I'm glad I gave this one a whirl, because I enjoyed it. I may have to check out more in this author's library.

I'm on the fence about rating. It's fast paced. A page turner. I wanted to know more. Sometimes the scenes confused me. Not sure if they were explained poorly, or overexplained, or just in need of a fresh set of eyes editing it. And why didn't we learn more about Choo Choo? We saw glimpses but not enough of his true history. Seems like the book is set up for a sequel.

Fast-paced and difficult to put down. Nonetheless, it was predictable to the point that I had actually predicted something less obvious than what happened. Also, there is no way that anyone walks into a restaurant on Saturday night in Dupont Circle and gets seated immediately. The Widow File is fun, but ultimately forgettable.

Quick read, kept me interested and involved to the very end. I really liked Dani.

However, if you are like me and read the Kindle version without ever looking at the cover of the book, it might be more of a page turner (because the cover gives a huge clue about where the file is!).

The Widow File by S.G. Redling was a part of the Kindle first for December. This book was published by Thomas & Mercer.

Dani lives a secret life working for a shadowy organization. Her boyfriend doesn't even know what she does for a living. She and her co-workers all seem to get along pretty well. Dani is especially close to a guy named Choo Choo. When the organization headquarters is attacked and most of the members are killed and one of them is kidnapped, Dani and Choo Choo are seemingly the only two survivors. Dani is now being hunted by a hired hit man because it is believed she has in her possession certain sensitive files and information.
This fast paced thriller is a short read, with less than 200 pages. There isn't a lot of down time.
The mystery of who it is Dani really works for, what information someone is willing to kill for, and who can be trusted and who can't will keep you turning pages.
The downside is that too much information remains unexplained. Too many questions were not answered. The story is tied up with a satisfactory conclusion, so it's not a cliffhanger, it's just that I felt like I didn't have enough information about the work Dani did and why they were in this situation to begin with. Otherwise the writing and formatting is great and the story is outside the box with a few interesting twist. Overall this one gets a C+.
