This book was okay. The writing wasn’t bad or anything but frankly the story was a bit boring - too drawn out.

This book had a slow start that almost made me put it down, but once the story began to unfold, it became much more engaging. While I enjoyed how everything came together in the end, I can't help but feel that it would have been even better if it were shorter.

3.5. This is a tough rate/review because this book went through so many different phases. The beginning was pretty boring and confusing. The author threw in a lot of elements that weren’t addressed immediately and honestly, some were never addressed… I wasn’t completely sure who our main characters were supposed to be until a quarter of the way through. But then there was some good angst and some good pining, and the plot picked up to make more sense. Basically, if the whole book had looked more like the end I would’ve liked it more.

The most mediocre YA fantasy book I think I’ve read. Interesting concept but just not a great payoff.

Well thought out and well written, but should have been about 1/2 as long. It just drags on and on.

It’s been a LONG time since the ending of a book had me saying “are you fucking kidding me” in a good way. This book changed my brain chemistry and I’m so happy I stumbled upon it, it has romance and intrigue and time travel and magic and all the ingredients of a fun time. Admittedly I picked this up not knowing it was the first in a series (sigh) but that made the ending okay because it 100% could’ve just ended with that ambiguity and left us to speculate forever, but luckily there’s more where this came from! I was not ready for it to be over and will absolutely pick the next book up immediately.
