This book is not about what you think it's about. 

The phrase "zany adventure" comes to mind. When incidental siblings come together to keep one of them out of Big Trouble, the story we read is one about family, the difficult consequences of all our choices, history and the way it reverberates for generations, and love in all its complicated glory. 

I was worried when the first big "twist" was revealed because I could see that the author was asking me to suspend all disbelief and just support these people as they tried to figure things out. I pushed through and found quite a few moments of reflection and tenderness.

This took me a long time to finish, and I will say when I stepped away from it I had no desire to return. At the beginning I was captivated, I thought the cover up  / try to hide her boyfriend’s body with her siblings was a funny set up for a novel about bringing a group of siblings together in adulthood. I just don’t think the book held that concept well, and it lost a lot of its charm really quickly. I also thought the siblings could have been carved out a bit more (maybe we could have even gotten chapters in their perspective). Overall a fine read!

I feel very mixed about this book. I found the concept interesting and liked the theme of familial bonds  but I found some of them (particularly Dimple and Lizzie) somewhat one-note and felt a bit disappointed by their lack of development as the story went on. Given the way it was resolved I wish there had been less of a focus on the Dimple’s boyfriend, and further exploration into each of the sibling and their relationships with each other and their father. While I felt satisfied by the end there were parts I found less interesting along the way.
